14th April, by 11:00 19 states plus the Federal Capital Territory have confirmed cases of the #COVID19  killer disease. Lagos has remained the nation’s epicentre.

14th April Lagos State Update:

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-Olu

Lagos State has so far discharged 70 #COVID19 patients who tested negative twice. Yesterday, 8 more patients were discharged. They include 6 males and 2 females.

The Governor announced that it “gladdens my heart as it means we’re on our way to zero transmission if we continue to maintain social distancing, take our personal hygiene seriously, but most importantly, stay at home.”

In another development, following the recent sustained restlessness by hungry youth of the state, and the extended restriction order by another 14 days, the governor announced “a new bumper scheme. This is in addition to the ongoing palliative measures to cushion the effects of the extra 2-week lockdown.

The scheme includes:

  1. A daily food kitchen to feed 100,000 youths daily
  2. Cash transfer to at lest 250,000 vulnerable residents
  3. 3-month moratorium to All MSMEs and SMEs granted loans by Lagos State Employment Trust Fund.
  4. LASTMA and VIO to immediately release all impounded vehicles apprehended from 1st of March for minor offences
Successful medical palliatives:
  1. 18,000 individuals have accessed free primary and secondary health centres
  2. 600 child deliveries free of charge
  3. Free medical investigations by authorised health workers has been introduced. Residents are however advised to demand for vlid identification before granting them access into their homes. Their investigations cover health and trade history.
Security:

The lockdown order issued by the federal and state governments recently resulted in hungry restless youth taking to robbery.

For this reason, 100 of them have been arrested by the police. A new Deputy Inspector Genral of Police (DIG) has also been deployed to the state.

According to the governor, the DIG is a seasoned crime fighter. He will “lead a special force to burst criminal gangs breaching the peace in the affected communities in the state.
