The 15-man Chinese doctors who arrived Nigeria 2 weeks ago are set to start work.
News received today say they have completed the mandatory 14-day quarantine. All 15 doctors were invited by the Federal Government at the instance of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
According to Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the government of the federation and Chairman of the presidential on covid-19, the Chinese doctors are in Nigeria to to help deal with the coronavirus outbreak.
The 15 doctors came in with over $1.5 million worth of medical gear through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on the 8th of April, 2020.
Expectedly, Nigerians, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Nigeria Union of Jounalists (NUJ) and civil liberties organisations have protested their arrival. This is particularly due to the fact that local medical experts have largely managed cases of coronavirus successfully. Nigerians therefore, see absolutely no reason why the government accepted the offer of CCECC to have them come in to assist.
Some people also question their sincerity in view of the fact that China’s assistance to some Western Countries did little to stem the deaths recorded.
Others say that their arrival into those countries coincided with the alarming number of fatalities while infections in China where the disease began, have very largely reduced and in some cases non longer occurs. Curiously also, major cities in China are not affected by the ravaging killer disease.
The Chairman of PTF, Boss Mustapha has however explained that the 15 Chinese doctors will not treat any Nigerian but would only offer advisory and capacity building services.
Meanwhile, Information and Culture Minister, Lai Muhammed has debunked rumours that one of the doctors tested positive to #COVID19.
