15-man Chinese medical team arrives Nigeria, SGF Explains Why

15 Chinese Doctors Set to Start Work, Complete Mandatory 14-day Quarantine

15-man Chinese medical team has arrived Nigeria to help combat the coronavirus disease. News just reaching us say they landed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport Abuja.

#COVID19 started from the Chinese city of Wuhan.

It was largely localised within Wuhan. Major cities and highly populated areas of the country were not touched while continents are reeling from the havoc and destruction the disease has wrecked across the civilised world.

Somehow, China appears to have found a cure and the magic to stem the pandemic within its borders.

The world’s best scientists are still struggling to find a cure. Questions have been asked about how very quickly Wuhan and the entire country has moved on with all their businesses open and deaths within single digits and on some days, no records of new infections or fatalities.

China’s antidote for covid-19 is yet to be shared with the rest of the world.

Many cities in the world have remained suspicious of their aid. Unfortunately, the Nigerian government remains resolute in having them come to help.

Nigerians have largely protested government’s need for help of Chinese medical personnel.  This is in view of the fact that Nigeria’s medical teams have handled the scourge very successfully. this is in spite of projections that at least 39,000 fatalities will be recorded in Nigeria alone.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists and the Nigeria Medical Association as well as opposition politicians have protested very vehemently.

It remains to be seen what value the 15-Man medical team has to offer Nigeria.

However the Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on covid-19 urged Nigerians and Nigeria’s medical experts to accept them.

According to him, “I wish to clarify that all the countries of the world are seeking assistance and are receiving help in the fight against covid-19 – even the United States is looking for help elsewhere.”

“The support coming from China is a corporate social responsibility initiated by CCECC, a company with a total volume of infrastructural contracts in Nigeria worth over N10 billion.

The team arrived with medical gear and equipment. Health Minister, Osagie Ehanire assured Nigerians that the team will be quarantined for 14 days before they start work.
