18th April covid-19 update has Nigeria recording 542 confirmed cases as at 10:40 pm.

Out of that number, 49 new cases were reported.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health has cleared doubts about the hospital where Mallam Kyary was treated in the state.

According to him, First Cardiology Consultants is a Lagos Sate accredited hospital with facilities to handle covid-19.

Full statement: 

“Following enquiries on the passing away of the Chief of Staff to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mallam Abba Kyari on Friday, 17th April 2020, the Lagos State Government States that:

“Mallam Abba Kyari died from complications of coronavirus infection at First Cardiology Consultants in Lagos.

“This hospital is a Lagos State designated high care, biosecurity compliant, covid-19 facility, accredited by the Health Facility Management and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMMA) of the Lagos State Ministry of Health.

“As a basis for accreditation, First Cardiology Consultants established a separate specialist wing with staff dedicated to the treatment of complicated cases of covid-19, under the supervision of the Lagos State covid-19 emergency response team.”

Worldwide figures since breakout of covid-19:
  1. Total infections: 2,325,335
  2. Deaths: 160,448
  3. Recovered: 595,519
  4. Current active cases: 1,569,368
  5. Closed cases (cases which had an outcome: 755,967)
    • 595,519 (79%)recovered and discharged
    • 160,448 (21%) deaths
