The number of new cases of covid19 continues to rise daily with 216 confirmed new infections reported on the 18th of May 2020.
Total number of cases since the breakout of the disease now stands at 6,175 after testing 35,345 people nationwide.

The Federal government of Nigeria has extended the partial lockdown directed on the 27th of May for another 2 weeks. Speaking through the Chairman of the the PTF on Covid19, the president says that rushing to fully reopen the economy could erode all the gains so far recorded.
According to him, the country’s medical infrastructure is not yet ready for the kind of spike in infections that a total re-opening portends.

There continues to be hope with vaccine discoveries as US drug manufacturer, Moderna announces a successful early stage human trials for one of its injections.
The experimental immune inducing vaccine was largely successful with all volunteers except one who developed skin redness around the point of injection. All other volunteers indicate that it is generally safe and well tolerated.
