19th April covid-19 update has Nigeria’s cases continue to rise. Total infections now stand at 627.

86 new cases were reported as at 11:50 pm. with over 81% in Lagos alone.

19th April Lagos State #COVID19 update:

The Commission for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi has announced that only 3 local government areas in the state have no reported cases of covid-19.

He said this during a briefing on Sunday the 19th of April. Abayomi added that “Looking at the local government distribution of cases, you can see that the majority of cases are in Lagos Mainland LGA, followed by Eti-Osa LGA.

“The 3 LGAs where we have not identified any case of covid 19 yet are Ajeromi, Epe, and Ojo.”

Prof Abayomi noted that clusters of infections were seen in Alimosho LGA.

Lagos State Highlights since disease breakout:
  1. Recovered: 93
  2. Discharged: 194
  3. Deaths: 14
  4. Age group with prevalent cases: 30 – 50

He mentioned that he would be worried if the state records infections in people over 70 as that is a risk factor globally.

The Health Commissioner said that the state’s testing capacity is now at about 1,000 daily with an improved turnaround time of 24 hours.

Worldwide figures as at 19th April:
  1. Total infections since disease breakout: 2,407,341
  2. Deaths: 165,069
  3. Recovered: 625,128
  4. Active: 1,617,144
  5. Closed cases (ie cases with outcome): 790,197
    • Recovered and discharged: 625,128 (79%)
    • Deaths: 165,069
