2 people are reported killed in a tanker explosion that wrecked many shops, cars and motorcycles on Sunday afternoon in Enagi town, Edati Local Government Area of Niger State.

The 2 people were burnt in the inferno that occurred around 1:00pm in the area.

An eyewitness told newsmen that at least 9 vehicles including 6 motorcycles were razed. He added that many people escaped the accident with various degrees of injuries.

The eyewitness who identified himself as Usman Baba Emir said that 3 shops were burnt in the fire but no residential building was touched.

Giving his own account, a resident named Hassan who said that the inferno razed his shop, added that the tanker loaded with petrol had a head-on collision with a truck

According to him, “The tanker was coming from Mokwa while the truck which was coming Bida tried to overtake and had a head-on collision and the tanker exploded. Several shops, motorcycles parked by the roadside and buildings have been affected.”

The State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Musa A Mohammed stated that, “The accident involved a tanker and non-tanker and so far, 2 bodies have been recovered.”
