A political group has announced that it has withdrawn its support for 2023 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi.
The group announced that it took the decision following the withdrawal of the presidential aspirant from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
On Wednesday, Peter Obi shocked Nigerians when he announced his withdrawal from the opposition party a few days to the party’s presidential primaries.
The support group identified as the Democratic Forum for Justice and Equity (DFJE) said in a statement on Friday, May 27 that it regrets supporting the aspirant.
Even if Obi is yet to announce his new political movement, there are, speculations that the presidential hopeful may join the Labour Party to realise his ambition.
It has been said also that talks are ongoing with Obi to have him join the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) led by the former Governor of Kano State and a presidential aspirant of the party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate.
The pro-Obi group in the statement issued on Friday through its National Coordinator, Malam Isah Ajilete, said it regretted supporting the former governor of Anambra State in the first place and has now withdrawn its support.
The group noted that it was on the basis of equity and fairness for the Southeast that it initially declared support for Obi.
