20th May Covid19 Report, Nigeria, Lagos, Worldwide

There were 284 confirmed new cases of covid19 across  of the federation as at 20th May. This brings to 6,677, the total number of cases since the breakout of the dreadful disease.

 

Breakdown of confirmed new cases by states:
  1. Lagos: 199
  2. River: 26
  3. Oyo: 19
  4. FCT: 8
  5. Borno: 8
  6. Plateau: 7
  7. Jigawa: 6
  8. Kano: 5
  9. Abia: 2
  10. Ekiti: 1
  11. Delta: 1
  12. Kwara: 1
  13. Taraba: 1

 

Highlights of total cases as at 20th May:
  1. Total tested since breakout of disease: 38,231
  2. Confirmed cases: 6,677
  3. Currently active: 4,637
  4. Recovered and discharged: 1,840
  5. Deaths: 200

 

Lagos State #COVID19 update as at 20th May:

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu

17 patients were discharged form the Lagos isolation centres having tested negative twice to the infectious disease. They 6 females and 11 males.

The new numbers bring to 649, the total number of patients successfully managed in the state.

Isolation centres that discharged patients:
  1. Infectious Diseases Hospital, Yaba: 7
  2. Lags University Teaching Hospital (LUTH): 6
  3. Gbagada General Hospital: :4

 

Worldwide covid19 report as at 6:05 am, 21st May:

CNN reports that it is advised to open schools this summer to avoid pupils being in school during the flu season. This is to avert a resurgence of the disease when the weather becomes really cold.

Writing on @CNNOpinion, @ijbailey says that “reopening schools this summer may well be our best opportunity for invaluable in-person instruction when there’s time.”

Figures as at 21st May 6:05am:
  1. Total cases: 5,090,064
  2. Deaths: 329,734
  3. Recovered: 2,024,231
  4. Active cases: 2,736,101
  5. Closed cases (cases which had an outcome): 2,353,963
    • Recovered and discharged: 2,024,231 (86%)
    • Deaths: 329,732 (14%)
