State updates:

Kano:- A grandmother in Kano today cried out this morning over the death of her son-in-law and the indifference of the NCDC health workers when she called for help while he suffered.

Grandma Salman Ahmed said her daughter called her to complain about her ailing husband and his rapidly deteriorating  health condition.

Unfortunately, the health officials did not turn up while the man lost his speech and eventually died. The officials arrival after he had died.

She said she is deeply worried about the fate of her daughter and her 5 grandchildren.

On her part, her daughter lamented that her husband could have been saved if the health workers had come earlier.

The coordinator of the Kano response team, Dr Sabitu Shu’aibu told Channels Tv that they have not been supplied with testing kits and so could not take calls.  They would be ready to handle cases by Sunday.

Benin:- Another woman visited the Central Hospital, Benin City today to find that there was absolutely no health official on duty. None was found even in the emergency section.  Every single office was locked while sick patients suffered on long benches alone.

Another frantic woman complained bitterly about having to take her very sick baby home as no doctor was available to see her.

Equally worrisome is the dingy state of the hospital premises and the effect on the psyche of ailing patients.
