In a press release by the church directorate also known as The First Presidency, it directed that the 3 years tithe refund be made out to all active and non-active tithers.
The press release:
Tithing Refund Program
The ongoing Pandemic has created serious challenges for many members of the church especially those who have suffered loss of employment and other financial setback due to economic problems. Our herts go out to all members of the church during these trying times.
The Lord has blessed his church greatly during prior years of prosperity. We have felt impressed to consider what more the Lord would have us do to care for those in need. After much discussions, earnest pleading and heartfelt prayers to know the will of the Lord, we feel strongly that the Lord’s storehouse should be opened for a season for the blessing of His saints.
We are pleased to announce a general Tithing Refund Program to serve as a help in these difficult times. The Church will refund up to 3 years of tithing payments directly to members who have contributed in the past. Eligible recipient include all active and less active members, as well as all former members who paid tithing on or after May 1,2017.
Members should contact their bishop or branch president to request a refund. Additional instructions will be sent to unit leaders within the next few days.
We pray the Lords continued blessings upon all his children, and more particularly upon those who have so faithfully consecrated of their means for the building of the Kingdom.
