30 Passengers Including Corpers Burnt To Death on Highway

30 people reportedly burnt to death in an auto crash along the Zaria-Kano highway in Kaduna state on Thursday.

According to reports, the accident involved two 18-seater Toyota buses and a Volkswagen Golf.

Confirming the gory incident in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, the Assistant Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Zaria Zone, Abdulrahman Husaini said the accident which happened at about 5:00 pm on Thursday.

He said it occurred at Hawan Mai Mashi community in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna was caused by a speed violation.

Hussaini revealed that three vehicles collided on the spot in an attempt by one of the vehicles trying to overtake the other.

Most of the passengers according to the personnel were trapped inside the vehicles and got burnt severely, leading to their death.

A witness who spoke with Channels TV said the victims had no way to escape from the vehicles.

Speaking further, Hussaini said that some injured passengers were rushed to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Shika for urgent medical treatment, while the remains of those that died were evacuated and deposited at the hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, two National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members died on Thursday while returning home from their orientation camp.

The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Muhammad Fadah confirmed the sad incident on Thursday in Kaduna State.

According to him, the youths were involved in an auto crash while on their way home after the completion of the 2022 Batch ‘B’ Stream one training at the orientation camp in Adamawa State.

Fadah who visited the scene of the incident commiserated with the families of two corps members, saying the victims paid the supreme sacrifice while serving their fatherland.
