Amarachi Ugochukwu, a 32-year-old female banker in Lagos is reported to have committed su!cide over economic hardship.
The lady is said to have drunk an insecticide on Monday, January 8, 2024, within the premises of the bank.
At about 1:00pm, Ugochukwu made her way to the restroom, where she drank the insecticide, unknown to her colleagues.
Other members of staff went looking for her when the phone she left on her table kept ringing and she was not around to pick up the calls.
One of the office’s toilets was forced open after it was found to have been locked from inside with no one opening it. Her lifeless body was found on the floor alongside a bottle of an insecticide, which she reportedly ingested to take her life.
Also found beside her was a su!cide note where she lamented about how bad her life had been. A doctor was called in and confirmed her dead on the spot.
In the su!cide note made available to newsmen, the lady blamed hard economy for her decision to end her life, saying nothing was working well for her.
“Nothing is working in my life. My figures are low. My brain is clogged up. The economy is getting harder. My decisions are wrong. My mind is messed up. The future doesn’t seem bright at all. I see extreme hardship. I can’t bear the pain anymore,” she wrote in the su!cide note.
Ugochukwu apologised to her parents and other members of her family in the suicide note.
“I’m sorry mum, I’m sorry dad, I’m sorry Nene, Okwe, Toto, Nazor, Chuchu, Ifunanya,” she added.
She concluded by writing, “Dear Lord, have mercy on me!”
