The Federal Government has announced that it will shut down the Lagos Island-bound lanes of the Third Mainland Bridge for 2 weeks.

The closure will take effect from Wednesday, January 13, 2021.

Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Engineer Olukayode Popoola said this in a statement on Saturday.

According to him, shutting it down is part of ongoing rehabilitation works on the longest bridge in Africa.

The Controller called for the cooperation and understanding of the public, with particular reference to commuters.

He added that repairs will not be delayed unduly to allow for prompt reopening of the bridge for smooth flow of traffic.

According to him, “The contractor plans to shift the current diversion point 2 kilometres towards Oworonsoki and close to traffic from the Lagos bound carriageway including the Adekunle bound slip road beside the current diversion points for two weeks starting from Wednesday, January 12 to 27 2021 to enable her to remove, replace and cast in place joint 23 after the current diversion point alongside the other two joints, 16 and 17 she is working on presently on the Lagos Island-bound carriageway.”

Olukayode Popoola explained further that after casting of the 3 joints and asphalting, the whole of the Lagos Island-bound carriageway will be reopened to traffic.
