No fewer than 58 Nigerian women and children have been saved from human traffickers in Ghana.
This brings the total number of rescued Nigerians in Accra in the last three months to 105.
The Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Board of Trustees in Ghana, Callistus Elozieuwa, disclosed this to the Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, when she visited the trafficked victims at their location in Accra.
A statement by the Commission’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, on Saturday, gave the breakdown of those rescued as Kano (47), Katsina (5), Jigawa (2) and Kaduna (4).
Apart from the newly rescued ones, 11 more girls were earlier rescued and in the care of NIDO.
The statement added that some of the suspected agents were equally apprehended and handed over to security agencies and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for necessary profiling and prosecutions.
Dabiri-Erewa commended NIDO Ghana and the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana as well as Ghanaian law enforcement agencies for their cooperation.
