5G telecommunication towers are reportedly being set ablaze in the UK.
The action follows what some engineers consider as conspiracy theories that the towers are responsible for the many deaths linked to covid-19.
BBC reports that in the UK, “There have been fires at masts in Birmingham, Liverpool and Melling in Merseyside.
NHS Director Stephen Powis told the press conference 5G infrastructure is critical both to the general population who are being asked to stay at home and to the healthcare response to the virus.
‘I’m absolutely outraged and disgusted that people would be taking action against the infrastructure we need to tackle this emergency,’ Powis said.
“Mobile UK said key workers had suffered abuse and threats from people about damaging infrastructure under the pretence of claims about 5G.
‘This is not acceptable and only impacts on our ability as an industry to maintain the resilience and operational capacity of the networks to support mass home working and critical connectivity to the emergency services, vulnerable consumers and hospitals.’ – The BBC
The Verge questions the reasoning behind the theories linking the 5G towers to Covid-19. It queries why there are big numbers of coronavirus infections and deaths in Iran and Japan where 5G technology has not been rolled out yet.
The news channels says “that there is no scientific evidence that links the coronavirus pandemic to 5G, nor any immediate negative health effects to 5G.”
The Verge also regrets that site workers have been harassed at tower bases. It says that rumours linking 5G towers to multiple deaths started with a group in Facebook. The conspiracy soon went viral and the Facebook group was disbanded.
ibtimes.com reports that “according to FullFact.Org, there is no truth in any of the theories that are being floated online and 5G is no way helps in the spread of COVID 19 – the disease caused by the coronavirus.”
There was a footage of one of the towers being burned down in Birmingham.
