60 Lawmakers Propose change from Presidential to Parliamentary System of Government

No less than 60 members of the Federal House of Representatives are seeking an amendments to the 1999 Constitution to shift from the existing presidential system to a parliamentary system of government.

Led by a lawmaker representing Lagos State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Wale Raji, the lawmakers identified the need for reducing the cost of governance. 

Raji also stated that it will enable legislators engage in robust policy debates among others as some of the reasons for demanding a return to the parliamentary system.
