Stories from the heart

Men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) prevented a 67-year-old man from taking fatal plunge into the Lagos Lagoon.

The man took the curious decision on his birthday, today, the 5th of April.

A statement released by the police revealed that the man identified as Oluwatoye Bamgboye, from Oju-Ore, Ogun State was trying to jump into the Lagos Lagoon inward Lagos Island when he was stopped by police officers.

Bamgboye stated that he was going through financial crisis and explained how he sold his house, land and car to solve a problem but it was unsuccessful.

He described how he also took a loan but things did not get any better. The elderly man added that things got so bad that his wife could not put up with him any longer so she deserted him.

According to the suicidal man, “Today being my birthday, I have decided to end it all. The burden and the frustration is too much for me to bear. My wife has abandoned me in the process.”

He has since been taken to Adekunle Police Station, while efforts are on to contact his family members.
