7 Passengers Burnt to D3ath on Sagamu-Benin Expressway

No less than 7 people are reported to have been burnt to d3ath in a tragic bus explosion around Odogbolu junction on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on Wednesday (today).

The victims were women who d!ed as a result of extent of the intensity of the fire.

The tragic incident involved a Mazda bus marked AGL886YD, carrying 15 passengers. Reports say that the bus went up in flames due to engine oil overflow along the highway.

Confirming the incident to reporters, the spokesman of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps in Ogun State, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the incident occurred on Wednesday at 2:50 pm.

He added that other passengers in the bus sustained various degrees of injury. The corps explained that an eyewitness confirmed to the agency that the lone fatal crash was coming from the Kosofe area of Lagos inbound Epe for a church revival when its engine suddenly caught fire.

“The number of passengers in the commercial bus was 15, out of which seven females were burnt to death, while the remaining seven were seriously burnt and taken to Ijebu-Ode General Hospital for treatment.

“However, the driver of the bus escaped. The accidented Mazda bus has been taken to Odogbolu Motor Traffic Division.”

Akinbiyi, while commiserating with the families of the deceased, urged motorists to maintain and service their vehicles regularly.
