72 People Arrested, Vehicles Impounded for Violating Covid-19 Stay-Home Order

At least 72 people have been arrested today by the Lagos State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department for contravening the government #COVID19 stay-at-home order.

Most of those arrested are boys who capitalised on the empty streets to play soccer.

Others are fitness groups at the Gbagada General Hospital open ground and around the streets of Lagos who went on their routine morning workout sessions.

All those arrested are in the custody of the SCID Yaba. Reports say they will be charged two court shortly.

Besides the 72 people arrested, at least 15 vehicles were also impounded by men of the Rapid Response Squad. Most of the vehicles were taken from the Alapere area of Lagos.

The federal and state governments had issued a directive asking everybody to stay at home to curb covid-19 spread.

In addition, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced on a Saturday live update to Lagos residents that at least 400 vehicles have been impounded by the Lagos task force.

According to him,

“We have reviewed the situation, we are aware. It is true that we have seen a lot of people trying to flout the rules especially when it gets to 7, 8:00pm.

“Today, we have arrested almost 400 vehicles, all yellow buses, that the Commissioner of Police reported to us and they have also been given the directives that the lockdown is 24/7.

“It is not that you are meant to restrict at any point of the day. It is 24/7 and the people need to obey the rules. People need to comply.
