8th April Covid-19 report as at 9:00pm shows 22 new cases of #COVID19. The country now has 6 deaths and 44 recoveries.

Nonetheless, despite the successes recorded by Nigerian health workers, the government received a 15-man team of health personnel from China.

Nigerians have largely rejected the help of the experts saying that local health workers are doing a great job already.

They were received on arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation who doubles as the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19, Boss Mustapha.

Mustapha appealed to Nigeria’s medical experts to accept them as many other countries have.

According to him, “I wish to clarify that all the countries of the world are seeking assistance and are receiving help in the fight against covid-19 – even the United States is looking for help elsewhere.”

“The support coming from China is a corporate social responsibility initiated by CCECC, a company with a total volume of infrastructural contracts in Nigeria worth over N10 billion.

Breakdown of new infections by states:
  1. Lagos: 15
  2. FCT: 4
  3. Bauchi: 2
  4. Edo: 1

Highlights of Totals: 
  1. Total infections nationwide: 276
  2. Discharged: 44
  3. Deaths: 6

All the deaths are patients who had underlining ailments like diabetes, kidney, heart related ailments etc.

Regional collaboration:

 The NCDC announced that it is working with the West Africa regional health institute to train more health workers on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)

It added that health workers in the region should therefore join the Head of IPC @tokwor7 at 2:00pm today.

Lagos State 8th April update:

The Presidential TaskForce on Covid-19 yesterday, visited the Lagos State Governor and the state’s health team. 

They were led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the Taskforce, Boss Mustapha. In tow was the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire on a working visit.

The governor who is also the incident commander of the state’s covid-19 response team, in his daily report said,

“Our gratitude goes to President Muhammadu Buhari for setting up a “high powered’ multi-sectoral Taskforce on COVID-19 in this national emergency, to ensure all measures to curb the pandemic are implemented.

“We conducted members of the Taskforce on an inspection tour of the 110-bed Isolation facility in Onikan and other quarantine facilities across the state like the 200-bed isolation facility built at Gbagada General Hospital, the 120-bed Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba and the 60-bed isolation centre at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

“We intimated the Taskforce on our preparedness level, in the case of an exponential transmission of the virus in the state. We also shared some of our activities, which have yielded positive results and the Taskforce was impressed with these achievements.

“Whilst we are scaling up capacity in some of our isolation centres, we are in the process of building additional isolation facilities across the state. Our efforts so far will raise our capability and position our country to deal with future emergencies.” Babajide Sanwo-Olu
