Lagos #COVID19; updates by 9th May, 2020:
9th May Covid19 Report, Nigeria, Lagos, Worldwide
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu

The state has recorded 1,683 or 41% of the total confirmed cases in Nigeria as at Friday, 9th May.

Out of that number, 448 have been successfully managed and discharged while 33 persons have so far died.

The governor in his daily briefing stressed that the state is “in the community transmission stage, and the only way to be sure we are making all the right decisions is ensuring that we continue to scale up testing.”

Nonetheless, he worries that the gradual easing of lockdown has met with total disregard for basic government recommended social behaviour. According to him, banks, markets and general public areas have returned to being overcrowded with no regard for social distancing. People are not even masked up. All this is happening “despite massive advocacy,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu added that as a responsible government, his administration will not hesitate to review the terms of ease of lockdown in the next couple of days.

For him it will amount to some painful decisions but will ultimately be in the interest of the general public.

Th Governor added that “in order to hasten treatment processes, we will be introducing community management of cases. This will be achieved by accrediting and incorporating primary healthcare facilities and private healthcare facilities for the management of mild-to-moderate cases of COVID-19 patients.
