The Lawmaker representing Offin, Sagamu 1 Constituency at the 10th Ogun State House of Assembly, Omooba Damilare Mohammed Bello and 5 others have been discharged and acquitted of all charges related to the unrest and mayhem that occurred in Sagamu during a hunger protest last September.
The protest, which was sparked by secret cult k!llings in the region, resulted in widespread violence and the d3aths of several youths.
Hon. Dre Bello and his co-accused were arrested by Department of State Security (DSS) and the police reportedly obstructed the DSS investigation by unlawfully going behind Honourable Damilare Bello to search his house without a warrant.
“Immediately DSS were through with their investigations, police charge us without substance to the information that led to the arrest, we were charged to court in connections with the incident”, Honourable Dre Bello said.
However, after a thorough investigation and legal proceedings, the court has found no evidence linking them to the crimes. In a ruling delivered today Wednesday, 11th of September, 2024, the court discharged and acquitted Bello and his co-accused of all charges, bringing an end to the lengthy and highly publicized case.
