Zambian Father Disciplines a Truant of A Son for Wasting $21 Thousand School Fees; Social Media Goes Wild

Family Discourse

Soooo, I read a lot of the messages since yesterday about the AFRICAN – Zambian father who was livid about his son’s truancy.

Imagine spending TWENTY ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS  on just one child ! Denying yourself the luxury vacations and exotic cars that, in the typical and very sad African mentality, show you have arrived.

A salary earner at that ! That money could actually have refurbished his simple-looking living room or bought him at least 3 pieces of land in a fast rising area like Abijo GRA in the Lagos kind of Lusaka.

He certainly certainly set his priorities right like a forward thinking parent that he obviously is…, an African father who wants his off-spring to live a better life than he did. His first son must set the pace…

He gave it his all, he sent the boy to the very best school in the country, American International School of Lusaka, but alas ! alas ! alas ! A first son goes for Music, dumps creative subjects and picks up a mic and instruments, Lord have mercy !

I feel his pain, I feel his anguish, I feel his regret, I hear loud and clear the thoughts racing through his mind.

My goodness ! The boy did not turn up for Maths and English exams !  That boy is lucky because, fathers like mine would have done what Pete Edochie did to his son:

And you know what ? Madam was video recording the scene for social media ! Habaa, madam why ? Even telling husband to stop !

Well, let’s ignor madam for now. A popular English saying and even the bible verse in Proverbs 13:24 say “Spare the rod and spoil the child.”

I feel a bit of consolation for George Bester (the Zambian father) though, at least the boy passed Religion, meaning there might be grace for the young man to retrace his steps.

He passed Geography, meaning that he should know his African roots, retrace his steps and live up to expectation.

The society is warped today because parents are being forced to negotiate with children. Yes, negotiate when a child is clear-minded.

George is certainly not insane ! he was an “A” student himself and expects nothing less for his child. He was the president of the Science Students Club in his days. A lion does not give birth to a sheep. The eagle gets tough with its eaglets to get them to soar high when she looks away. It is insane for anyone that does not understand the bird that builds the eaglets into the enviable creatures they are.

Well, MTN distanced itself from him. Too bad. It is convenient for them to do so because of their international affiliations.

“MTN Zambia@MTN_Zambia Replying to @AfricaFactsZone

This serves to inform the public that George Bester is not an @MTN_Zambia employee since 2019 and @MTN_Zambia disapproves any violence or abuse towards children”

Well, the Zambian father has written a rejoinder, after all, it is his cross, his early 1 stitch will surely save him 9.

But, trust me, the African parents among the company’s management, be they Zambian, Ghanaian or Nigerian would do the same. George’s wife messed up big time. It is curious how she saw the incident as some entertainment fit for the social media.

Unless God’s grace shows up for young George Bambino Bester, Mrs Bester will likely live to regret her actions.
