Over 40 Health Workers Test Positive to Covid-19, 4 Died of the Disease in Nigeria

Over 40 health workers have been infected with covid-19 since the outbreak of the disease in Nigeria. Out that number, 4 have died so far

Nigeria’s Health Minister, Dr Osagie Ehanire revealed this yesterday at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Task Force on Covid-19.

Dr Ehanire said that “apart from the over 40 health workers, there are others who have been quarantined in in the last 2 weeks due to exposure and so, have not been able to contribute to the efforts of the health sector.”

Worried about the development, the Minister said that “frontline health workers must undertake refresher courses on Infection, Prevention and Control at intervals. 

“They must remain vigilant in the line of duty and maintain a high sense of suspicion for #COVID19 :

“Frontline health workers must undertake refresher courses on Infection, Prevention and Control (IPC) at intervals… Remain vigilant in the line of duty and maintain a high index of suspicion for COVID-19,”

Credible sources reveal that most of the infected 40 health workers are workers in at least 17 private hospitals in Lagos who were exposed to patients with the disease.

Nonetheless, the Minister hailed the heroic efforts of the frontline workers and assured them that government will continue to provide them with the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to serve as first line of defence against infections.
