Femi Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity has spoken about the position of the Federal Government on the resumption of schools.
In an interview with TVC this morning, he said that schools may reopen only for students about to take final examinations like the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
His position follows Monday’s nationwide broadcast by the President. President Buhari, yesterday, directed a gradual relaxation of the the lockdown imposed on the FCT, Lagos and Ogun States.
Nigerian schools have remained closed for over 4 weeks just like nearly everywhere in the world. This follows the coronavirus pandemic that caused governments to cut down all possible mass gatherings of people to stem the virus spread
Speaking on the resumption of schools in Nigeria, Femi Adesina said that:
“Canidates about to take the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and other examinations may be allowed to go back to school.
“If you look at Germany, they gradually reduced their lockdown by opening the schools for those who have exams.
Adesina added added that the “same may apply here as those who are to write WAEC and take examinations may be allowed to resume to take their exams.
However, he added that “The presidential task force will be the ones to decide on when to re-open.”
