Buhari Celebrates Eid-El-Fitr with Family in an Unusual Way

President Muhammadu Buhari celebrated the Eid-El-Fitr Sunday, 24th May with his family to mark the end of the 2020 Ramadan fast.

As is the tradition, muslims all over the world mark the day with festivities. This year’s celebration is an unusual one as faithfuls would have gathered in large numbers at prayer grounds to pray.

They would have also held parties afterwards with friends and family. Unfortunately, due to the realities brought on by the covid19 pandemic, the need to avoid large gatherings and maintain adequate social distancing, everyone spent day at home with only close family members.

Nigeria’s first family was not left out as President Muhammadu Buhari celebrated the Eid-El-Fitr prayers with his immediate family and just a few Aso Rock staffers.

The president would normally have travelled home to Daura to mark the day with his kinsmen but was compelled to stay back because of the coronavirus pandemic. 

A statement from the Ayo Rock Villa gives reasons why Buhari could not travel home: 


“President @MBuhari today joined his family for the Eid prayers at home in keeping with the #PTFCOVID19 protocol against mass gatherings as well as the directive of the sultan of Sokoto suspending Eid congregational prayers accross the country.”

Himself and his wife however, sent out goodwill messages to Nigerian muslims as they celebrate. According to the First Lady: 
 
“I congratulate the muslim ummah on the completion of the ramadan fast and the celebration of the Eid-el-fitri. I enjoin all muslim faithfuls to reflect on the prevailing pandemic of covid19 and its positive impact on family values, especially stronger family cohesion, as we continue to adhere to the protocol outlined for by the pandemic.”
 
Buhari on his part admonished faithfuls saying that “even as we mark the successful end of the ramadan and the commemoration of the Eid-el-Fitr, we are doing so mindful of the times we are in.
 
“Let us continue to reflect on the lessons and the virtues of this season and sustain them beyond the celebrations. I wish you all Eid Mubarak.”
