Malala was targeted and gruesomely shot by the Taliban while she was returning from school in the Swat Valley of Pakistan in 2012.  She was left for dead by the group who sought to silence her in their regressive campaign that limits girls rights to education.
Malala was immediately evacuated to Birmingham for treatment. Gladly, she could not be silenced as she immediately resumed school in England on recovery. She also continued her human rights campaigns through her entire school days.
