Nollywood ageless artiste and producer, Genevieve Nnaji has been nominated to the 2021 Oscar Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The academy revealed today, 1st June that it has invited 819 persons who have distinguished themselves in the motion picture arts.
The 93rd Academy Awards ceremony is presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). Recognition will be given to the best films that debuted between January 2020 and February 2021.
Venue is planned for Dolby Theatre, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California on the 25th of April, 2021.
The event was postponed from February 28th, 2021 due to the disruptions brought on by the socio-economic impact of the covid19 pandemic.
Besides Genevieve Nnaji, Nigeria’s film director, Akin Omotosho was also nominated. The Academy says that if the 819 nominees accept the invitation, agent members of the 2020 class will be allowed voting privileges at the upcoming Oscars.
Part of the statement released Tuesday says that:
“The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organisation to 819 artistes and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.
- Akin Omotoso – “Vaya” and “Tell me Sweet Something.”
- Genevieve Nnaji – “Lion Heart” and “Road to Yesterday.”
