Nigeria’s VP Osinbajo has denied receiving the sum of N4 billion from the embattled Former Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu.
The senior Special Assistant on media and publicity to the VP debunked the rumours on his verified twitter handle on Wednesday, July 8th, 2020.
News of he alleged fraudulent gift surfaced on an online news media today. Laolu Akande described the news as “lies.”
He labelled the news as “FAKE NEWS !” and added that the paddlers are only out to smear the image of the Vice President as he will “never be involved in such shady activities.” He added that it was concocted to confuse the pubic and smear the image of the V P.
In his words:
“Inundated by wide circulation of Fake News about VP’s purported involvement in some EFCC recovery billions, pls rest assured they’re all LIES: calculated to confuse and concocted to smear Prof. Osinbajo’s image. The VP has’nt & will never be involved in any such shady activities”
The former E F C C Acting Chairman has been mired in corruption allegations since the beginning of the week. Consequently, the presidency placed him on suspension to ensure seamless investigations.
The president today, appointed a replacement in the person of Muhammed Umar, the head of operations at the EFCC as acting chairman of the commission.
