Senator Buruji Kashamu Dies of Covid19

Buruji Kashamu, a former senator from Ogun State has died of covid19 

News of the unfortunate incident was broken by Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Ayodele Fayose and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce on Twitter.

According to Murray-Bruce, Kashamu died of covid19 at the First Cardiologist Consultants in Lagos. In his words:

“I have just lost my good friend of forever to #COVID19. Until his death, Sen. Buruji Kashamu and I were inseparable. He died today at First Cardiology Consultants, in Lagos. May his gentle soul rest in peace. I pray his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear this heavy loss.”

Kashamu was the Senator representing Ogun East in the 8th Assembly.

He was indicted in the US with allegations of drug dealing while resident in the country. In 2015, there was a huge drama at his residence in Nigeria after operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) attempted to arrest and extradite him to the US.

He challenged the action of the NDLEA in a law suit until his death at the age of 62.

Kashamu joins the growing list of prominent Nigerians killed by the deadly coronavirus disease in Nigeria. Other prominent citizens include the former CoS to President Muhammadu Buhari (Abba Kyari), Former Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, Senator Adebayo Sikiru Osinowo among others.

Obasanjo in his condolence letter called to the the consciousness of the living that the “life and history of the departed Kashamu have lessons for those of us on this side of the veil. 

“Esho Jinadu (Buruji Kashamu), in his lifetime, used the manoeuvre of law and politics to escape from facing justice on alleged criminal offences in Nigeria and outside Nigeria. But, no legal, political, cultural, social or even medical manoeuvre could stop the cod hand of death when the Creator of all of us decides that the time is up…”
