Lagos State Government has issued a resumption update for public and private schools. This follows its promises that schools would resume in a phased manner.
Schools in the state have been closed for over 6 months following the lockdown as a result of the #COVID19 pandemic.
In a statement issued today by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, the Ministry is adopting a phased resumption approach. This will enable them meet the covid19 social distancing rules and safety protocols.
Mrs Adefisayo explained that the present set of JS3 and SS2 students in public schools in the state will resume classes on Monday, the 21st of September, 2020. This will allow the JS3 students who are already in an exit-class to revise and prepare effectively for the soon-to-be-held Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
BECE is an examination organised by the Lagos State Examination Board and scheduled to hold between Tuesday, 6th October and Monday, 12th October, 2020.
The Commissioner also said that the resumption will afford the current SS2 students, the opportunity to prepare adequately for their transition to SS3. She added that the scheduled dates and venues for the Entrance Examination into Lagos State Model Colleges will soon be announced by the State Examinations Board.
She assured parents that updates on the resumption of the other classes will be made as soon as government is sure of the safety. Adefisayo also disclosed that the students belonging to the yet to resume classes in public schools will continue taking classed in the various platforms created by the State Government.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu gave an update on what his administration is doing to ensure that the state-owned schools give the best quality of education expected of any government.
According to him:
“Today, I attended the Eko Educators Webinar Performance Series 3.3 hosted by the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission.
“Our administration places a huge premium on education and innovation. This is a reason why it is one of the pillars of our development agenda.
“We have upgraded the curriculum in our schools, enhanced the capacity of our teachers training under the Eko excel initiative and set up an innovation fund for our youths. We will continue to prioritise investment in education and make our schools conducive for learning.”
