Tragedy as Eight People Burn to death on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

There was tragedy as eight people were burnt to death at the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

A Mazda bus conveying the passengers had a burst tyre around Saapade Bridge by Straight Gate College. It somersaulted several times and caught fire immediately.

Ahmed Umar, Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the accident occurred around 8:45pm.

The FRSC Commander said that “the suspected cause of the lone accident involving the Mazda bus marked AAA 249 VX was burst tyre which led to the loss of control and then crashed”

The fire service responded rather late as the bus was completely burnt down before it got to the scene.

Eyewitnesses say that the tragedy involved 11 passengers in the bus including 3 male adults, 1 female adults 1 child and 6 unidentified persons.

The unidentified victims were burnt beyond recognition.

However, 2 people survived the tragedy with severe burns and were taken for treatment in a hospital at Ibadan.

The witnesses also say that the driver appeared to have suddenly applied his brakes leading to the bus somersaulting.

There is often tragedy on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway with at least one incident weekly.
