Protests Turn Awry in Edo State with Violence, Jail Breaks

The #EndSARS protests in Edo State have turned awry with wanton violence on the streets of Benin City, the state capital.

Thugs have completely taken over the protests, set up road blocks, buring tyres and cooking their meals right on major highways.

There are also reports and video images of jail breaks and street fights.

#Endsars protesters have distanced themselves from current happenings saying the violence may have political backing.

Nigeria Police has confirmed the development exonerating the #Endsars protesters form the ugly incident.

It gave an official statement in its twitter handle earlier today:

Police stations have been burnt down while genuine #EndSars protests participants have left the streets.

#Endsars protests are said not to have gotten to the prisons or the police stations before the protests turn awry.

In view of the escalating street violence, the State governor, Godwin Obaseki has imposed a 24-hour dusk to dawn curfew in Benin City starting 4:00pm today.

The #Endsars protests are as a result, suspended in the state capital.
