Petrol Scarcity Imminent As Oil Workers Threaten Strike

News - Women's Perspective

Petrol scarcity is imminent considering the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN)’s directive to its members to down tools.

A letter dated 8th November 2020 and signed by the association’s General Secretary, Lumumba Okungbawa details reasons for the directive.

The development has sparked fears of the scarcity of petrol in the coming days.

There has been a recent disagreement between the body and the Federal Government regarding the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

Members have kicked against the decision of the Accountant General of the Federation to enrol them in the payment system.

They insist that IPPIS discountenanced the peculiarities of the oil and gas sector with regards to collective bargaining agreement and approved pay structure between the unions and the Federal Government.

According to them, they will shut down oil and gas facilities and the distribution of petroleum products across the country sparking fears of petrol scarcity.

@PENGASSAN also vowed to join their PENGASSAN counterparts and withdraw their services over government’s failure to pay arrears of 22 months pay.

They accuse the government of owing the arrears to their colleagues working with Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA).

Both unions have given the Federal Government 7 days to accede to their demands.
