Salary and Compensation for Life for Nigeria's Former Governors

Channels TV has listed the salaries and compensations for life currently enjoyed by some former state governors in Nigeria.

In one of the episodes of Sunrise Daily anchored by Alero Edu, the salaries and compensates include:

  • Befitting mansions built for them by the state government in their state capital and either in Lagos or Abuja. The minimum recommended is a five bedroom house.
  • Furniture allowance for befitting furniture of the afore-mentioned property and this furniture will be changed every 3 – 4 years
  • N100 million as gratuity
  • 100% of current basic salary of the incumbent and deputy, ie full salary for former governor for life
Sunrise Daily lists ex-Governors’ emoluments
  • Brand new jeeps and Hiluxes which will be replaced every 3 years.
  • 300% basic salary for car maintenance
  • 300% of basic salary for utilities (NEPA, water etc)
  • N5 million monthly to pay for stewards, cooks, drivers, personal aids and security
  • Female security is also required for spouses
  • 100% of basic salary for entertainment
  • Medical allowances within the country and overseas for an unspecified number of family members for life

Sunrise Daily host Alero added that the emoluments listed for spouses applies for those who have more than one wife.

Former Governor Babatunde Fashola has however, added that he is not interested in the pension or salary for life as an ex-governor.

Salary and Compensation for Life for Nigeria's Former Governors

Incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also recently approached the Lagos State House of Assembly to ban the emoluments.
