Parents of Kidnapped Kankara Students Keep Vigil at School Premises

Parents of the students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, yesterday converged on the school premises to pick up their children snatched away by Boko Haram.

According to them, government had promised them that the children would be returned yesterday so they turned up in the early hours of Tuesday morning to take them home.

They are said to have spent the night in the school premises after a weeklong disapearance of the children.

Most of the parents recount to newsmen, the horror of not knowing the fate of their children.

They insist that they will not go home until their children are returned safely.

Meanwhile, DCP Abba Kyari and a team of security personnel have arrived Kanakra in an effort to rescue the children.

Government Science Secondary School is located in the middle of a bush with little settlements scattered around.

Some of the settlements border Zamfara State while a major busy road leads to the city weekly Tuesday Market.

Channels TV reports that 17 of the abducted 333 students escaped from the abductors and returned home leaving 316 in captivity.

One of the student who escaped said they were fed with grass and dirty water like animals.

According to 96.9@CoolFMNigeria,Student recounts how he escaped abduction from GSS Kankara, Katsina. They were led to the bush, beaten & were counted as 520 He was lucky to escape & hid behind a tree, crawled to the mainroad & to a nearby town.”

A media aide to the Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari said that the bandits have warned that security operatives stop monitoring them helicopters.

Abubakar Shekau, the leader of Boko Haram had in a voice message on Tuesday, claimed responsibility for the abduction of the students.

The voice message said that they snatched the boys to promote Islam and discourage western education.
