The Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on covid19, Boss Mustapha has announced that Nigeria is officially in the second wave of the pandemic.

Mustapha made the revelation during Thursday’s daily media briefing of the Presidential Task Force on #COVID19.

Nigeria has therefore joined the many countries that are experiencing the second wave. Worse hit are European countries most of whom have declared a lockdown

Hadi Sirika, Minister of Aviation added that Nigeria stands the risk of losing the gains from the combined efforts of everyone in the last 9 months.

A second lockdown may be inevitable at this time, he lamented.

Sirika recommended that Nigerians adhere to the Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs) and increase testing and detection to avoid further loss of lives.

The interventions will also minimise the rising cases and flatten the infection curve.

According to him, two weeks ago, Nigerians received the cheering news of the potent covid19 vaccine, unfortunationly, “we have witnessed spikes in number of infections at home and abroad.

“The real threat is upon humanity and the progress made in the global health sector in the last 5 decades or more.”

The Minister listed the scary spike in the country’s cases over weeks 49 – 51 as:

• Week 49:- 1,843
• Week 50:- 3,918
• Week 51 (Current week Mon -Wed):- 1,889

Most End of year parties, jamborees and concerts have proactively been cancelled by organisers for fear of an uncontrolled spread of the covid19 disease.
