Mali has entered the second wave of covid19.
Government announced Friday, that it is closing its bars and restaurants for 2 weeks while fairs and schools must shut down with immediate effect until the 10th of January.
There is an overwhelming influx of patients into the hospitals of the vast Sahel region that has also suffered multiple jihadist attacks.
The country is currently governed by a weak caretaker government following an August 2020 coup d’etat.
Government spokesperson, Hamadoun Toureh told newsmen after a cabinet meeting that the closure of restaurants and bars will commence by 12 midnight, Saturday.
The government has in addition, declared a 6-month health emergency while public gatherings are limited to only 50 people until the 10th of January.
With a population of 20 million, a weak covid19 monitoring system, the country has officially recorded 6,049 cases of #COVID19 with 211 fatalities.
Daily cases have risen to an average of 150 even as hospitals in Bamako, the country’s capital struggle to cope with the influx of patients.
