The management of Deeper Life High School has officially reacted to the scandal trailing the school regarding the molestation of a JSS 1 student, Don Davies.
In a 4-minute video released on Tuesday and monitored on Channels TV, Mrs Thelma Malaka, the Education Secretary promised that the school will not cover up the matter, but ensure that justice is served.
According to her, “Permit me to remind you that the office of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State has taken over the investigation of the matter to ensure neutrality and a dispassionate outcome.
“We appreciate the concerted efforts of everyone who has shown support in the investigation thus far.
Mrs Malaka added that “we reiterate that we will be transparent and that justice will not only be served, but it will also be seen by all that it has been served.
“We would like to restate that Deeper Life High School stands on the core values of integrity and uprightness and will not attempt to cover up any immoral act under any guise.”
Don-Davies, the JSS 1 was reported by his mother in several video clips to have been subjected to many incidences of molestation by senior students of the school.
Mrs Deborah Okezie reports that he was beaten, starved and serially sexually assaulted for bedwetting after the principal sent him off to the senior boys’ hostel as punishment.
The video clips resulted in the suspension of the principal by the school authorities while the Akwa Ibom State government undertook to investigate the allegations.
The development was confirmed by the Education Secretary, Mrs Thelma Malaka.
She however, added that school has decided not to comment on the matter as it would amount to sub judice considering that the government has taken over the investigation.
The. child’s mother has also raised an alarm that she has been threatened from several quarters to drop the case but she is bent on seeing the matter to a logical conclusion.
