Presidency Remembers General Murtala Muhammed, 45 Years On

Former Military Head of State, late General Murtala Ramat Mohammed is today, remembered by Nigerians, 45 years after he was assassinated.

Personal Assistant on New Media to Muhammadu Buhari on new media, Bashir Ahmad, posted the update on his confirmed twitter handle.

According to him, “Former Nigeria’s military leader, General Murtala Mohammed was assassinated on February 13, 1976, exactly 45 years today.”

The late General was assassinated in an ambush by Lt Colonel Buka Suka Dimka on his way to the office at Dodan Barracks, Lagos. He was aged 37.

Equally killed in the ambush was his aide-de-camp, Lieutenant Akintunde Akinsehinwa. They were both riding his official black Mercedes Benz salon car.

Stories of the genocide he is alleged to have supervised at #Asaba is currently trending tops on Twitter.

General Murtala Mohammed is said to have announced that all the men come out to the city centre to receive him.

They obliged and honoured him with their festival pure white regalia and danced gayly before him and his men.

It is reported to be their last dance, what many describe as the dance of death. To the dismay of the unsuspecting men, he ordered his men to open fire on them, mowing down everyone of them.
