Makinde Decamps to the Ruling APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), today received Peter Makinde of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as he decamps to the majority party.

Makinde is a member of the House of Representatives from Ondo State.

The lawmaker made his position known in a letter read before his colleagues at Tuesday, 23rd of February plenary.

Hon Peter Makinde’s letter of defection was received and read by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Gbajabiamila aduces the defection to an alleged division within the African Democratic Party Camp.

Welcoming Makinde to the APC, the Speaker told him that “you’re welcome to the progressive party.”

The comment did not go down well with opposition Peoples Democratic Party as they called for an an order.

On his part, the Minority Leader, Nicholas Ossai protested the defection saying it was in breach of Section 68 of the constitution.

He therefore told them that they had no basis to query the reasons cited by Makinde in his defection letter.

He said they were busy bodies lacking any locus. According to him, “Your don’t even know the name of the chairman of the party, so your order is overruled.”
