Just In ! Shoprite Workers Suspend Strike Temporarily (video)

Breaking News !

Workers at the Shoprite Malls called in this this afternoon to say they have suspended their strike action temporarily.

They had undertaken the strike action following the refusal of management as well as the new owners of the supermarket chain to reassure them of job security and if possible, negotiate an acceptable severance package.

The workers fear that the moment the Nigerian acquirers of the South African retail chain depart Nigeria, they will be left in the cold.

In a conversation with the staff the afternoon, they said are calling off the strike action as both managements have invited them to the negotiating table.

They promised however, that if the negotiations are not favourable, they would resume the strike action by Thursday next week.

#hettyosblog reported yesterday that the 25 Shoprite outlets were under lock and key as the owners and acquirers refused to reveal the fate of the workers as they hand over the business.
