Inciting Sermons: Bauchi State Government Suspends Cleric

The Bauchi State Government has suspended an Islamic cleric indefinitely for preaching inciting sermons.

The suspension is contained in a statement by the Commissioner, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Social Welfare, Ahmad Jalam and addressed to the Islamic Cleric, Malam Abubakar Idris of Asare Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

In the statement dated 27th April, 2021 and titled, “Violation of the ethics of Preaching Sermons in the state,” the cleric was found to have been castigating companions of Prophet Muhammed in his preaching.

It says that the preaching is capable of instigating violence which will result in a breakdown of law and order in the state.

Malam Abubakar Idris was therefore suspended from preaching anywhere in Bauchi State.

Inciting Sermons: Bauchi State Government Suspends Cleric

The Commissioner warned that the state government will not tolerate any form of breach in the conduct of religious preaching in the state.

He also urged all Muslim clerics in the sate to use the period of Ramadan fasting to strive for unity through moderation and respect for the teaching and practice of the Holy Prophet (SAW).

Jalam also asked religious preachers to adhere strictly to the guidelines and code of procedures in the conduct of their preaching to ensure religious tolerance and harmony among followers.

The cleric, Malam Abubakar Idris is a resident of Asare in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
