91 Oshodi Market Shops Razed, Count Their Loses

At least 91 shops in the popular Kairo section of Oshodi Market were razed in Thursday night’s inferno.

Most affected were the fabric stalls where hundreds of millions of Naira worth of goods consumed by the inferno.

The fire started at about 8:00pm and took several trips by many fire trucks to put out by Friday morning. Also involved in the rescue operation were emergency officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

Besides the 91 shops and goods lost to the fire are four administrative offices.

Giving an update on the mishap, the Director-General of LASEMA Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said that an investigation has begun to ascertain the cause of the fire as some explosive devises were found at the market.

He said that on arrival at the scene, some lock-up shops were on fire but luckily, no life was lost.
