A Delta State indigene, Morris Monye has raised an alarm over an ongoing construction of a gas plant near a school.

He fears that the project could result in the kind of incident that occurred near Satellite Town, Lagos where an entire school was razed with many students and the principal fatally injured from a gas plant explosion.

The Lagos gas plant had active pipes running close to and inside the school premises.

In a twitter post captioned “DELTA STATE GOVT MUST BE RESPONSIBLE !”

Morris Monye@Morris_Monye said, “Been trying to hold myself for weeks. I reached out to negotiate with the state How do you situate a huge gas plant close to a school filled with children with the state govts approval?

“This shouldn’t be another Sis Henrietta situation.

“I got contacted early this month about plans by a company to situate a gas plant close to this school at Asaba.

“Circled in red is the proposed gas plant, circled in green is the school hostel. I was alarmed at this and reached the state govt via a proxy.

“The State govt (SSG) sounded alarmed and promised to look into the situation. I patiently waited while still consulting on next steps to take.

“He later sent a team to the site after a week, apologizing for the delay due to the hosting of 17 Southern Governors at Asaba.

“I later got reports that they did an inspection and the gas plant met all required safety measures.

“How???????

“The school officials sent a report of the inspection.

“I am speaking now.

“We don’t pray for bad thing but this is a disaster waiting to happen and they start doing useless condolences.

“And I want to know the DPR official that approved such a project in the first place.

“Kindly tag and mention all relevant bodies.”
