The House of Representatives has received a proposal to change Nigeria’s name to the United African Republic (UAR)

A tax consultant, Adeleye Jokotoye submitted the proposal to the committee in charge at the South West Zonal Public Hearing in Lagos on Wednesday, 2nd of June.

Jokotoye revealed that the current name was an imposition by Nigeria’s past colonial masters and so should be changed.

He added that the name change will will not only mark a new physical beginning, but a psychological one.

According to him, “At this crossroads in our history, it is mandatory that we change our name to reflect a new begining which will be ushered in with a new constitution.”

Jokotoye disclosed that he chose the United African Republic (UAR) because Nigeria is made of hundreds of ethnic groups that need to be united.

He said that an alternative to UAR could be United Alkebulan Republic which means United Mother of Mankind Republic.
