A 20-year-old woman has ingested sniper and nearly killed herself after her husband brought in a second wife.
The incident took place in Roni, Roni Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The woman is reported to be hospitalised after the suicide attempt.
Dausiyya Dahiru had bought the vial of sniper with which she planned to kill herself after her husband divorced her.
She is said to have laced her food with the liquid after she failed to stop the man from taking a second wife.
Dausiyya had had a long-running misunderstanding with the estranged husband since he revealed his plan to take the second woman as wife.
Jigawa State police spokesman, ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam said the police in the area was notified that the victim attempted to commit suicide because her husband divorced her.
Shiisu added that she fainted immediately after ingesting the sniper and was rushed to the hospital in Roni for treatment.
The police spokesperson added that the case is still under investigation but the woman is responding to treatment.
