The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the kidnap of Senator Nelson Effiong by unknown gunmen.

In a an address to newsmen on Monday, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Odico Macdon said the gunmen kidnapped the lawmaker at about 10:00pm on Sunday, 5th of September, 2021.

Effiong is the immediate past Senator for Akwa Ibom South in the upper legislative chamber.

He was abducted by the armed men at a lounge in the evening of Sunday.

The police confirmed the incident and vowed to do everything possible to ensure his return. the also vowed that the suspects will face the full wrath of the law.

He was kidnapped by unknown gunmen at a popular dinking spot on Okon Road, Uyo.

“The Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme is miffed about it and have promised to spare no resource in ensuring his safe rescue and perpetrators brought to book,” he added.
