The Nigerian Army has set up road blocks at strategic locations in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) amid reports of impending attacks by bandits.
Daily Sun reports that the Nigerian Army received intelligence reports that an attack will be launched by the bandits and terrorists in the city.
They added that the perpetrators plan to enter the FCT through the Abuja-Keffi expressway and other entry points.
Following the reports, road blocks have been mounted at strategic points to conduct a stop and search on suspicious movements.
The operation kicked off on Tuesday night and already, some suspects have been arrested and are helping the military with useful information.
The road blocks have caused traffic gridlocks in places like Kugbo, Karu, Jokwoyi, Orozo, Karshi, Nyanya, Mararaba, One-man Village, Masaka among others.
The exercise is spearheaded by men of the Guards Brigade who are also tasked with protecting the president, the first family, VIPs and the FCT environs.
A military officer who spoke on conditions of anonymity added that checkpoints have also been mounted around Abaji, Zuba and Bwari areas with a view to apprehending suspects before they enter the FCT.
He added that the abduction of some staff members and families of the University of Abuja may be related to the planed attacks.
